Painting It Pink

Another sign of progress: painting!  Since Charis and Gwyneth got moved into the new bedroom, we decided it was time to update Lily and Meg's room -- the paint was in desperate need of some refreshing. So, they settled on Lighthearted Pink.  :-)  

They helped for about 10 minutes, so I made sure to get them in a couple of pics.

But they all really did help, especially with keeping Darcy occupied. And in 2 days, we had it all done and reset.

Two very happy girls.  Worth all the work.

Climate Control

When so much of our work has been taking things backwards, or making messes, it's really nice to move forward to installation and comfort!  It was time for Charis and Gwyn to get some heat and air, and this little mini-split answered the call.  

One day of wiring and installing and testing. 

And voila!

Grinding away

This will go down as one of the worst weekends in this whole process. Truly, an awful couple of days.  The noise, the mess, the frustration.  We were all in tears (well, except for our man, of course) by Sunday night.  Nothing like having MUD covering the entire floor of your main living spaces... But a necessary evil to get rid of all the residue from the tile.

The girls were diligent helpers, sweet to take their turns...

...while I managed the baby in the garage.  HA!

But FINALLY, it was done.

Bye bye, tile!

Experimenting with the best method, James quickly discovered that a more serious power tool would be necessary. (shocking.)

Enter The Scraper.

While the girls hung out at Granbee's, we got to work (with a little Facetime here and there).

And by the end of the day. YUK.  But it's gone!

Tribute to the Tile

Ah, the white tile with black grout.  From the moment I walked in this house, I wondered... I wondered WHY they did that. But mostly, I wondered WHEN we could get rid of it. IT'S TIME.

But we realized it was going to create a massive mess, and what if there's asbestos in that grout? Hmmm... So we invested in having a sample tested, but it was clear. Whew!  

So, say your final goodbyes to the white and black tile and to THIS, the "rug", another curious creation. 

I'm just going to sand some sheet rock...

"Jana, I'm just gonna sand some sheet rock." 

3 hours later...another wall gone. The fridge and microwave moved.  Taking shape.

Moving In

Final details -- closet doors -- to be painted later...

Lily's all moved in to her new room with Megan!

And the new room is ready to go!

All tucked in...

And that means Darcy's room could get done. And it did. Just in time.
